Deliberately Lowering Blood Pressure with Sodium Nitroprusside
نویسنده
چکیده مقاله:
The goal of hyptensive anesthesia is the safe reduction of intraoperative blood loss, thus reducing transfusion risks. Previous hypotensive technics had a narrow margin of safety in that cardiac output was usually reduced in proportion to the degree of induced hypotension. This is in contrast to the results of our study, in which Sodium Nitroprusside was used as the sole hypotensive agent. Nitroprusside, a potent direct odilator, reduces the afterload on the anesthesia depressed heart. The improvement in cardiac output plus better tissue perfusion appears to widen the margin of safety over that of earlier tech-nics.

A hemodynamic model to guide blood pressure control during deliberate hypotension with sodium nitroprusside in children
Sodium nitroprusside (SNP) has been widely used to control blood pressure in infants and children. The goals of this analysis were to develop models that describe the hemodynamic response to SNP dosing in pediatric patients; examine sources of variation in dose-response, defining age, and size dependencies; and determine vulnerable populations or patient subtypes that may elicit dosing modifica...

متن کاملLowering blood pressure in 2003.
The foundation of treatment for patients with hypertension is ongoing use of lifestyle measures such as physical exercise, weight reduction, and salt restriction. There should be emphasis on reduction of total cardiovascular risk, including smoking cessation and achievement of goal blood pressures. There are now five classes of first-line blood-pressure-lowering drugs - diuretics, beta-blockers...

BACKGROUND It is unclear whether blood pressure should be altered actively during the acute phase of stroke. This is an update of a Cochrane review first published in 1997, and previously updated in 2001. OBJECTIVES To assess the effect of altering blood pressure in people with acute stroke, and the effect of different vasoactive drugs on blood pressure in acute stroke. SEARCH STRATEGY We s...
متن کاملSmall bolus of esmolol effectively prevents sodium nitroprusside-induced reflex tachycardia without adversely affecting blood pressure.
PURPOSE Hypotensive anesthesia with sodium nitroprusside (SNP) often is associated with reflex tachycardia. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a small bolus of esmolol could counteract SNP-induced reflex tachycardia and sympathetic activation without affecting blood pressure. MATERIALS AND METHODS Using a time-series study design, 27 healthy young patients scheduled for mand...

Except when used briefly or at low (< 2 mcg/kg/min) infus ion rates , sodium nitropruss ide gives rise to important quantities of cyanide ion, which can reach toxic, potentially lethal levels (see WARNINGS). The usual dose rate is 0.5 to 10 mcg/kg/min, but infus ion at the maximum dose rate should never las t more than 10 minutes . If blood pressure has not been adequately controlled after 10 m...
